The 2008 season will see a new rule book come into play. (Available at the Pro Shop) While most of the changes are for improved clarity, there are a few changes that should be mentioned.

  1. Asking for distances is now permitted (“How far is my ball from the hole”)
  2. Players are now permitted to identify their ball in a hazard prior to playing a stroke as a penalty will now be assessed for playing the wrong ball in a hazard.
  3. If a ball in motion is stopped/deflected by the player, their caddy, partner or equipment, the penalty is now one stroke penalty in both match and stroke play.
  4. The flagstick - whether attended, removed, or held up – may now be moved when the ball is in motion. Therefore, if a ball is about to strike the flagstick lying on the ground, the flagstick may now be moved out of the way.

Note that the RCGA has not adopted the USGA’s decision regarding hole-in-one prize. Within Canada, all hole-in-one prizes must still conform to the $1000.00 prize limitation for Armature Status requirements.
